Portland School of Astrology Presents: Queer Astrology: the Saturn Return of AIDS with Special Guest Christopher Renstrom, May 8th 2014.
Everything born into time has a horoscope – even a pandemic. Although there was evidence of the virus’s existence for years AIDS has a birthday. It’s July 27, 1982 when the virus was named for the first time at a meeting at FDA headquarters in Washington, DC. Join Christopher Renstrom as he introduces the archetypal motifs of the AIDS horoscope, explores the meaning of its Saturn return, and offers some ideas of what we can take away from the holocaust that devastated, emboldened, and re-defined the gay community. What Planet Are You On?
Friday Night Lecture, May 9th
Everyone knows that your birthday says something special about your personality. But do you know why? It’s because on the day that you were born a certain planet was powerful in the sky and this planet became your Ruling Planet. To be a Child of a Planet means that you inherit its talents, tastes, and attributes. It also means that you inherit its foibles. Some planets are light and breezy while others are dark and intense. These will be reflected in your character which is why it’s so important to learn about who you are. Understanding your Ruling Planet helps you to map yourself. Each of us is a world replete with continents and oceans; poles and hemispheres. Learn about the world you hail from. http://www.oregonastrology.org/

Saturn: A Newer Look at an Older Devil
Saturday Workshop, May 10th
Saturn has always maintained an outsider status in Astrology. Saturn was the planet associated with Jews, blacks, slaves, the elderly, and the destitute. A far cry from its current connection to rigid authority, oppressive systems, capitalism and the money-class. Saturn is the planet of melancholy and irony. Indeed Saturn speaks to us in ironies because – being the planet of time – hindsight is always 20/20. Where Saturn resides in our horoscope is where we can expect to face our deepest struggles. Saturn will show us where we spite ourselves and Saturn will show us where we succeed despite ourselves. We will examine Saturn in art, culture, and history as well as in the charts of workshop attendees. http://www.oregonastrology.org/

In the Beginning Astrology course Christopher introduced the Twelve Zodiac Signs, the Sun, Moon, & Ascendant, and the Four Elements. Now we learn about the Planets, their lore and history, influences on contemporary events, and the relationships they form to each other in the sky. We also learn about the Astrological Houses. This provides a full and comprehensive understanding of the horoscope. Christopher is very careful to introduce the ideas step by step so at no time do you feel overwhelmed or overburdened. We were introduced to the lead characters of the play in Beginning Astrology and now we meet the rest of the cast to see how your story plays out. Held over one weekend, (Sat/Sun 10am-5pm) $200. Class is open to those who have taken the Beginning Astrology Class and anyone else who wants to expand their understanding of the planets. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for questions or to register.
Match Made In Heaven: Ruling Planets and Relationships
Years ago we were told that women were from Venus and men were from Mars. If only life was that simple! The truth is that each of us is born under a different Ruling Planet—be it Venus, Mars, Mercury, or Pluto (there are ten Ruling Planets in Astrology)—and these planets influence our temperament and values as well as the way that we love and relate. This workshop will teach you how to look at life from your Ruling Planet’s point of view—as well as the Ruling Planet point of view of your lover, spouse, boss or child. Understanding different ruling planet temperaments fosters greater communication, opens your worldview, and takes the tug of war out of the need for acceptance and/or fear of rejection that dominates so many of our relationships. Held over one weekend, (Sat/Sun 10am-5pm) $200. For questions or to register, email email@example.com.
Tarot cards are probably the most popular form of divination. All you have to do is ask a question, shuffle the cards a few times, lay them out on the table, and there’s your answer. But how many of us really know how to read that answer we see staring back up at us? Before Christopher became a full-time Astrologer, he was a full-time tarot card reader in Manhattan. Going to work at 10PM (and not getting home before 7AM), Christopher worked the VIP lounges of New York City’s most exclusive nightspots, discotheques, and after hours clubs. This is where he learned to hone his craft as he read for just about every personality type imaginable. Now Christopher wants to help you to learn to read the cards for yourself in a plain and simple style. Christopher looks at the Tarot as a loose-leaf Book of Knowledge ready for the reading if you are familiar with how to turn its pages. Christopher will teach you how to open that book and read those pages for yourself in his weekend workshop. Whether you choose to use tarot for mediation, to answer people’s questions, or as your own personal journal you will come to enjoy this occult art which is both infinitely mysterious and unexpectedly revealing. This is open to beginners as well as avid readers. Held over one weekend (Sat/Sun 10am-5pm) $225 for course includes your own free Tarot Deck. For questions or to register email firstname.lastname@example.org. Christopher is also offering this as a review class for his advanced students at 50% off! ($100 for advanced students.) Class will be held in Salt Lake City, at the Safety Consortium Building, located at 400 West Lawndale Drive (2500 South, enter from 300 West).
